Hampi Hemakuta Gayathri Peeta (Devanga Mutt) – A Divine Destination for Every Devanga Soul

The Spiritual Essence of Hampi’s Hemakuta Gayatri Peetam

Hampi – An Eternal Treasure in History

Located in Karnataka’s Bellary district, Hampi is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its rich legacy of art, culture, and spiritual significance. Once the capital of one of the wealthiest empires in the world — the Vijayanagara Empire — Hampi thrived during the 14th to 16th centuries, flourishing in administration, religion, education, arts, and commerce.

This magnificent land is adorned with architectural marvels — temples, mandapas, stone chariots, and intricately carved monuments. Some of the must-visit landmarks include:

  • Hemakuta Hill – Known for ancient Jain and Shaivite temples and the sacred Gayatri Peetam.

  • Vittala Temple – Famous for its musical stone pillars and the iconic stone chariot.

  • Virupaksha Temple – A grand Shiva temple where the sun’s morning rays cast divine light on the towering gopuram.

  • Achyutaraya Temple, Lotus Mahal, Hazara Rama Temple, King’s Palace, Elephant Stables, and many more add to Hampi's spiritual and historic aura.

The River of Purity

The sacred Tungabhadra River flows majestically through Hampi. Along its banks lies the Hemakuta Gayatri Peetam, a sacred spiritual center for the Devanga community.

Hemakuta Gayatri Peetam – The Spiritual Flame of the Devangas

Located atop Hemakuta Hill near the banks of the Tungabhadra, the Sri Gayatri Peetam is not just any monastery—it is the spiritual mother center for the Devanga community. Historical evidence suggests that during the Vijayanagara period, the kings highly revered this place, offering donations and land grants, recognizing its spiritual importance.

For nearly 200 years, this Peetam was under the control of the Archaeological Department. However, it was brought back to divine life through the untiring efforts of Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dayanandapuri Swamiji, the current spiritual head of the Devanga tradition. With immense dedication, Swamiji renovated and revived the temple complex, transforming it into a vibrant spiritual hub for Devangas across the globe.

Divine Deities of the Peetam

  • Sri Ramalingeswarar Swamy

  • Sri Sowdeshwari Amman

  • Sri Gayatri Devi

Daily worship rituals are held with devotion, and grand festivals such as Navaratri, Karthigai Deepam, Guru Poornima, and the Pattabhishekam Festival are celebrated enthusiastically, bringing together Devangas from near and far.

Sri Sri Sri Dayanandapuri Swamiji – The Enlightened Sage of the Devangas

Sri Sri Dayanandapuri Swamiji is not only the spiritual head of the Devanga community but also a compassionate guru who guides all seekers on the path of divine realization. Under his leadership, the temple is spiritually alive, with daily pujas, meditations, and rituals offered to the presiding deities.

Swamiji meditates for hours daily, praying for the welfare of all Devangas worldwide. His divine presence has rekindled the spiritual energy of the Peetam and brought about a renaissance in Devanga's spiritual consciousness.

The Sacred Cave of Muthusangha Maharishi and Panigowda

A spiritually significant site near Hampi lies in Gangavathi taluk, Raichur district—the Malai Mallappa hill cave. It is believed that Muthusangha Maharishi performed intense penance here, and the sacred peepal tree he planted still thrives.

This cave is also associated with Panigowda, the Dharma Sthapaka (spiritual establisher) of the Devanga tradition. Ancient paths once connected this cave directly to Hemakuta Gayatri Peetam, though they are now closed.

Hampi – A Sacred Duty for Every Devanga

The Hemakuta Sri Gayatri Peetam of Hampi is not just a symbol of spiritual heritage—it is a living testament to the divine roots of the Devanga community. Every Devanga should make it a sacred mission to visit Hampi at least once with their family and receive the blessings of our Kuladeivams and our Guru.

This is not just a pilgrimage but a return to our spiritual origins—where our ancestral gurus once walked, divine vibrations still linger, and grace flows abundantly. The blessings received here are believed to remove obstacles, cleanse past karmas, and usher in prosperity, peace, and spiritual progress.

So, let us take this journey—to the sacred Devanga Mutt in Hampi and embrace our divine legacy.
