AIWWA Hosts Awarding Ceremony for Best Handloom Weavers 2024

Salem, October 15, 2024 — The All India Weavers Welfare Association (AIWWA) held its prestigious Awarding Ceremony of Best Handloom Weavers 2024 at Sri Sumangali Tirumana Mandapam, Mecheri, Salem. The event was graced by the Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. R.N. Ravi, who served as the Chief Guest. The ceremony took place in the esteemed presence of Hampi Hemakuta Gayathri Peeta Devanga Kula Jagatguru and Founder of AIWWA, His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Dhayanandhapuri Mahaswamiji.

During the ceremony, Governor R.N. Ravi honored the best handloom weavers of 2024 and emphasized the importance of preserving Tamil Nadu's rich tradition of handloom weaving. In his address, he commended the skill and dedication of the weavers, assuring ongoing support for their welfare and the growth of the sector.

Sri Sri Sri Dhayanandhapuri Mahaswamiji, Devanga Kula Jagatguru, spoke on the spiritual and cultural significance of handloom weaving, stressing the need to preserve traditional crafts in modern India.

Several prominent leaders and industry representatives attended, including the owner of Sri Sudarshana Silks, Mecheri, and President of AIWWA, Sri Prabhakaran, AIWWA Secretary Sri Annadurai, and Cavalier Dr. M.S. Mathivaanan, Chairman of SSM College of Engineering. Devanga Kula Rathan Sri M.S. Nagendra was also in attendance.

The leaders addressed key challenges facing the handloom and power loom industries, highlighting the need for government intervention to protect the traditional weaving sector. They discussed the modernization and emphasized the importance of better financial support for weavers. The attendees called upon Governor Ravi to take action in addressing these issues and finding solutions for the industry's concerns.

Governor Sri R N Ravi further assured the attendees that he would bring the issues faced by the handloom industry to the attention of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, seeking a solution at the national level.

The event concluded with a call for unity and collaboration between the weaving community, government bodies, and industry leaders to ensure the sustainability and growth of the handloom sector.
